Overview

It is with great sadness that we recognize the passing of Anita Arrow Summers on October 22, 2023. She was a trailblazer in the use of economic analysis to address public policy issues. Among her many accomplishments, she made insightful and impactful advances in the assessment of educational performance and urban economic development and, particularly close to home, she created and initially led what is now the Department of Business Economics & Public Policy at The Wharton School. When formed 40 years ago as the Department of Public Policy & Management, it was the first public policy department in a business school. The innovative character of that department reflects the commitment and brilliance of Anita. She will be missed in many ways.
