Overview

Gregory Lanzalotto is a PhD candidate in Operations, Information, and Decisions at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He studies policing and accountability in the criminal legal system. A central theme of his research is that criminal legal institutions are often evaluated using self-produced data, so administrative records provide only an incomplete view of police behavior. He uses quantitative analysis of large-scale administrative and video data to study how these records are generated and how new technologies can make evidence more useful for oversight and investigation. His current work examines police use of force, racial bias in traffic enforcement, AI-assisted review of body-worn camera footage, and forensic genetic genealogy.
